ACA President Margit Kraker met the President of the Republic of Indonesia
By constitutional law, the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) is obliged to undergo a peer review – i.e. an audit carried out by other Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) – every five years. Together with the German Bundesrechnungshof and the Swiss Federal Audit Office, the Austrian Court of Audit (ACA) conducted such an audit: on 7 August 2024, the report on this peer review was den presented in the House of Representatives.
Prior to the presentation, Margit Kraker, President of the ACA and Secretary General of INTOSAI, the umbrella organization of external public audit, met with H.E. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia. On this occasion, she emphasized the importance of the independence of SAIs worldwide. According to the latest Global SAI Stocktaking Report published by the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI), the situation regarding the independence of SAIs has deteriorated for the third time in a row. "INTOSAI is working intensively to improve this situation," stated Kraker.
The contribution that SAIs make to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is of particular importance. “In this context, I would like to thank the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia for its excellent cooperation and commitment," emphasized the ACA President.
Peer review on internal quality control
The internal quality control system of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia was the central topic of the peer review, with the Austrian Court of Audit focusing on the area of "ethics and integrity management". "A peer review is about exchanging knowledge with mutual respect," concluded Kraker.
