The ACA audited the Windpark Pretul GmbH

11.09.2020 - Within 13 years, the Windpark Pretul GmbH generated almost a double rate of interest

In June 2019, the Austrian Court of Audit (ACA) carried out an audit of the project Windpark Pretul GmbH of the Österreichischen Bundesforste AG (Austrian Federal Forests). The audit aimed at assessing the decision-making process with regard to the construction of the wind farm and the economic development of the company in particular under the framework conditions of the green electricity plan.

The audited period spanned the years from 2015 through 2018. The audit was connected to the review of the "Subsidies for Green Electricity as Exemplified by Wind Power and Photovoltaics" and was to evaluate the implications of the feed-in tariffs for green electricity on the efficiency of a concrete investment – with regard to the new redesign of the funding system related to the expansion of renewable energy.

Central recommendation

  1. The Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology should take into account the findings from the audit of the Windpark Pretul  GmbH for the upcoming redesign of the funding system in the framework of the planned Renewable Energy Sources Act (Erneuerbares Ausbau–Gesetz). This concerns especially the possible range of interest rates for an investment in the context of the subsidies for green electricity and the underlying parameters.
